In the 1980s, a group came together to form the St. Teresa of Avila Dance Ministry. The Ministry is comprised of willing vessels of all ages, ranging from young children to those of golden maturity. The only requirement for membership is a love of God and a willingness to serve by spreading the Word of God through dance.
The Ministry holds firmly to the belief in God’s Word from Matthew 18:20, “where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Each time they come together, they know that the Lord is present and that where He is, is holy. Therefore, they minister at all times in bare feet, in reverence to God and in acknowledgment that by being in His presence, they are standing on holy ground.
Over the decades, the Dance Ministry has established itself as an integral part of the St. Teresa of Avila experience, whether serving at STA or elsewhere in the community. Although they primarily minister during Sunday Mass, the Ministry has been blessed with many other opportunities to evangelize beyond the walls of STA. They have been invited to serve at numerous churches, correctional facilities, and nursing/rehabilitation centers and have also ministered at revivals, conferences, weddings, homegoing services, and other engagements, locally and nationally.
As it continues to blossom and evolve with time, the Ministry remains instrumental in advancing STA’s mission to “lead all people to a personal and life-changing encounter with the Risen Lord.”
Mission: To draw the worshipper into an encounter with the Risen Lord by bringing the Word alive through “Danced Prayer.”
